Accommodation at Nxabega (pronounced in-ta-BE-ga) is in nine enormous tented suites built on elevated wooden decks with a front-row view of the Okavango Delta's plains and lagoons. The en suite is equally generous in size and fitted to a high standard. A private balcony completes the picture.
The main living area is part London club, part safari lodge with hardwood floors, wood panelling and leather furniture giving way to an open-fronted lounge that becomes ever more African as it moves into the open air with a large deck and swimming pool.
Luxury facilities aside, it is the five-star service and the genuine welcome from Nxabega that makes this place one of our favourites. The guides are amazing with a staggering knowledge and great passion for the bush and you can expect all smiles all round all the time.
Nxabega is in an exclusive 25,000ha private concession on the edge of the Okavango Delta that shares a border with Moremi Game Reserve. The concession has six distinct habitats, which yield a diverse and fascinating array of wild animals, birds and panoramas. The lodge offers water safaris on delta boats, gentle cruises through the lagoons on replica mekoro, morning and evening game drives and fascinating walking safaris.
The game viewing and birding opportunities are excellent: lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, plenty of elephant and buffalo, hippo, and plains game including tsessebe, sable and roan and the unique red lechwe and sitatunga.
With 350 species recorded in the concession, birding is going to be exceptional. Specials include Pel's fishing owl, slaty egret, lesser jacana, wattled crane, coppery-tailed coucal, Hartlaub's babbler, greater swamp warbler, chirping cisticola, swamp boubou and brown firefinch. The list goes on and if you're a keen birder, we won't need to tell you this is your paradise.
Game drives (day and night with off-road traversing); birding; mokoro outings; delta boat safaris; guided walking safari; bush dinners; scenic helicopter flights (extra charge)
