The reserve can be reached within a 4-hour drive from Johannesburg, or via a short Federal Air flight from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
Designed as a modern farmhouse, the property features 5 spacious ensuite bedrooms that open directly onto expansive verandas and tranquil gardens. The interiors showcase neutral colours with Afro-chic accents, with shared spaces including an airy lounge with fireplace, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a private boma for firelit evenings, and a large pool for cooling dips.
With a private staff of 8, including your own private guide, tracker, host, butler, chef and housekeepers, your days are entirely your own – you decide how much or how little you’d like to do, and when.
If you do decide to set off on game drives, you’ll have one of South Africa’s largest Big Five game reserves to explore – with chances high to also spot the African wild dog, cheetah and a large selection of plains game, as well as more than 340 species of birds. Back at the house, chefs offer anything from casual meals to candle-lit al fresco dinners.
Morukuru Family also welcomes young explorers of all ages, who’re allowed on game drives with their parents, and will be kept busy with the Morukuru Kids programme – from a special backpack filled with safari treasures, to outdoor adventures including safe nature walks.
All activities are tailormade to your preference, with no fixed time schedules, and can include game drives to explore Madikwe’s diverse terrain and abundant wildlife, bush walks, fishing, bush breakfasts and lunches, and memorable mountaintop or riverside braais. In addition, you can try your hand at African drumming lessons, enjoy massages by onsite therapists, and book a romantic starlit sleep-out in the reserve’s hide.
