If you like wine, pines and vineyards, well, what are you waiting for? Marianne Wine Estate ticks your boxes.
It’s located in the Cape Winelands on the side of Simonsberg Mountain, between Paarl and Stellenbosch, next door to the Aquila private game reserve. Pine trees, orchards, gardens and vineyards are all around, ensuring you get a healthy dose of green things to enjoy.
The estate also gives you a varied selection of places in which to stay:
There are 5 different types of room in here, all located just a 5 minute stroll from the wine cellar and tasting room, and all with unique works of African art giving them an unmistakable local flavour.
Here are brief highlights of each room:
The Master Room: As the name suggests, this is the largest suite in the house. It offers garden and vineyard views. The bathroom is a biggie, with a shower and tub, and there’s another rain shower out on the balcony.
The Courtyard: You get a private terrace and ensuite shower room, plus underfloor heating here.
The Barn: This has twin single beds, a small living area, plus a private terrace with garden views.
The Parlor: This overlooks the garden and opens onto a shared terrace. The ensuite has a tub and shower.
All of the above are inside the Manor House. The Pool House is next door and, given its name, you won’t be surprised to learn it’s alongside the swimming pool. The views of the orchards and vineyards are excellent.
Shared facilities that all Manor House guests can use include that pool which offers views of Table Mountain, a games room, two viewing terraces and a chapel.
This quality quartet of living spaces are individually designed, and all have good views of the wine cellar (nearby) and Table Mountain (a bit further away). Each room is named after a local area, and on the private side of your front door you’ll find a living room, writing desk and ensuite bathroom, with two of the four rooms boasting a private deck with seats.
This is a seven bedroom beauty of a house in the midst of the vineyards with its own braai area and pool. You can book a room for yourselves or the whole place for a group of friends or your family.
We’ve already mentioned the nearby game reserve. But the reason why Marianne gets top marks for its location is because Cape Town City Centre is just a 40 minute drive away. That’s not a bad distance to drive for a day trip (and you can park your hire car or own car for free on the estate).
Closer to home, walks around the estate rarely fail to please the eye, and there are many, many opportunities to taste the wine that’s produced here. Otherwise, guests tend to relax on one of the terraces, or by the pools, before heading to the restaurant to eat and the bar afterwards for a sundowner (or two).
