A short detour off the main road to the Okavango Delta, will take you Nxai Pan where endless grassy plains, dotted with thorny scrubs and the pan itself attract big game in big numbers making this a worthy diversion.
Accommodation at Nxai Pan Lodge is in cool thatched chalets with plenty of space, en suite bathrooms and a private view of the waterhole in front of the lodge. The main lodge is an expansive open-fronted thatch building with comfortable lounge chairs facing that same waterhole. A swimming pool off to one side completes the picture.
Baines' Baobabs get a lot of attention as a highlight of this area but that's perhaps a little misleading because the unspoilt wilderness, the game viewing and the birdlife are a trifle more engaging than a grove of upside-down trees, intriguing though they may be.Lions, elephants, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, wild dog, zebra, wildebeest, oryx, bustards, secretary birds and many more besides come to the waterhole at your feet and your excellent driver and tracker team will take you on daily explorations of the parks sandy plains.
Game drives; Baines' Baobabs; Nxai Pan and Khama Khama Pan; nature walks with Bushmen trackers.
If you're here between December and February you'll be luck enough to experience the second largest migration in Africa, the Zebra Migration. It's incredible and a true sight to behold. There are few places you can go to see this many zebras in one place and one time.
