Much like its counterpart, Camp Sossus in Sossusvlei, Camp Doros offers a stripped-down, unpretentious accommodation choice for those exploring Damaraland. Situated within the Doros Joint Management Area, a 19,000-hectare expanse of authentic Damaraland scenery, the surroundings are characterised by arid expanses, sparsely vegetated valleys and distant mountains. Even in the intense midday heat, the landscape is remarkably stunning, with the true magnificence unveiling itself during the mesmerising moments of sunrise and sunset.
The six tents are just about all there is out here besides the communal area consisting of a bar, dining room, lounge and much necessary plunge pool. The essence here is of exploration, in the area and in the camp itself. Remarkably, it holds the title of the lowest environmental impact across Namibia. It might not be super fancy, but it's got everything you need, blending right in with the awesome surroundings.
This place is a hotspot for desert animals, and the main reason you'd want to check it out is to spot the mysterious black rhino. They've got the last gang of free-roaming rhinos in the world, and with a seasoned rhino ranger leading the way, you've got a pretty solid chance of running into them. Besides the rhinos, you might also bump into some regular plains game, antelope, and if you're really lucky, catch a glimpse of cheetahs, leopards, and both spotted and brown hyenas.
Nature walks and drives allow you to delve into the depths of this remote landscape. On an extended stay of three nights or more, you could also include tracking of desert-adapted elephants and an excursion to see the ancient rock engravings in Twyfelfontein.
Your activities are included in your stay: nature drives, nature walks and black rhino tracking. Stay longer and you could also look to include a visit to the rock engravings in Twyfelfontein and track desert-adapted elephants.
Children 6 years and older in camp only. A private vehicle for activities is required for children under 12 years.
