Zebra River Lodge

Zebra River Lodge

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Zebra River Lodge has numerous different room options, all spacious with en suite bathrooms and each decorated with the same homely comfort as the rest of the farmhouse. A large shady verandah overlooks a large shady garden and plunge pool and the canyons and mountains beyond.

It’s unpretentious and practical. As a nature lover, you’ll really feel at home here. Your hosts will ensure it with home-cooked meals, warm hospitality and a generous offering of activities from which to choose.

The solitude and quiet are the centre of attention here, whether by day as the sun beats down or by night as the brilliant night skies twinkle. It’s a place to rest, relax and rejuvenate your soul. The hiking trails lead you to explore nature, the plateaus and canyons and the spectacular wide open spaces. If you’re into geology, planetology or archaeology you’ll be astounded. If you aren’t, you’ll be left in awe all the same for the sheer beauty and absolute tranquillity.

Activities

Guided and unguided hiking trails in the Tsaris Mountains; birding; guided trips to several natural springs and Naukluft Mountains; farm drives; sundowner drives; mountain biking; 4x4 off-road driving

Hiking and exploring are the main pursuits at Zebra River Lodge and there are several excellent trails that take in the steep canyons, beautiful views and luxurious natural springs. Bird watching is good and the geology and paleontology of the area are fascinating including a visit to see some fossils. A large telescope is brought out on clear nights, which amounts to most evenings.

Using Zebra River Lodge as a base, regular visitors often stay for up to two weeks and explore the nearby Sossusvlei dunes and Sesriem Canyon, the Naukluft Mountains and the southern Namib Desert.

Sit watching over the waterhole, you’ll likely see zebra, kudu, gemsbok and other antelopes as well as a variety of bird species. Relaxation here is in itself and activity and one you’ll be happy to partake in.
