New for 2026 is one of the most exclusive camps in Botswana, with just 3 tents accommodating a maximum of 6 guests. Nxabega is located in the 25,000 hectare Pompom private concession on the western borders of the Moremi Game Reserve in western Okavango Delta.
The name means ‘the place of the giraffe’, so yes, you can expect to see plenty of those beautiful mammals on your adventures into the bush. And with the landscape featuring woodland, flood plains, and islands dotted with palm trees, you’ll see a wide variety of land, water and air-based wildlife during your stay.
With a maximum capacity of 6, people will never outnumber the wildlife in this camp. The trio of tents are all on slightly raised wooden decks to ensure you get clear views of your surroundings, which are best enjoyed from the chairs on your private veranda.
Your tent has solar powered lighting and is served by Wi-Fi – not all safari destinations offer this, by the way. You’ll sleep in a kingsize bed, freshening up in an ensuite bathroom with double showers, twin vanities, hot running water and a flushing toilet. Handy extras like binoculars, dressing gowns and slippers are provided, together with a journal in which you can jot down your experiences for posterity.
It’s a short walk from your tent to the main area of camp, where a large dining table and an honesty bar awaits. You can enjoy bush breakfasts, picnic lunches, and freshly prepared dinners here, and choose to dine at that table under canvas or around the large camp fire.
The lounge area is stocked with comfortable furnishings, a small library of books and a collection of board games that you can enjoy while sipping a sundowner.
Land, water and air-based activities. Take your seat for day safaris and night drives aboard 4x4 vehicles with a maximum capacity of 6 guests, so everyone gets a window seat. The wildlife you can expect to see (although there are no guarantees of course) includes giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena, zebra, jackal, impala, lechwe and elephant.
Guided walking safaris are also on offer, a chance for you to give the plants, insects and bird life the attention they deserve. Keen birdwatchers are likely to be excited by the prospect of seeing fruit bat and Pel’s fishing owl.
The availability of mokoro excursions depends on water levels. If they’re high enough, you’ll be guided along channels and across lagoons to spot hippo, crocodile, frogs and all kinds of birdlife. Mokoros are like canoes, giving you a silent, motor-less way to explore the waters without scaring off the local wildlife.
Another quiet pastime offered here from March to December is catch and release fishing (the other 2 months of the year are the breeding season). This is your chance to snap a photo of you holding a majestic tiger fish.
As regards air-based activities, helicopter flights cost extra but will give you a fresh perspective of the landscape and local wildlife. And at the end of the day, it’s often eyes to the skies as stargazing is popular with camp mates, giving you another chance to use those complementary binoculars.
