Unfenced. Uncrowded. And offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. Nedile has a lot going for it, and a lot of people wanting to stay here. But with just 5 suites, it’s likely you’ll have to book a long way in advance to experience its delights.
The wait will be well worth it. This is a stunning area of the Welgevonden Game Reserve, just a few hours north of Pretoria. You’ll soon see why this 36,000 acre site has been awarded Heritage status. There’s a real A to Z of wildlife to see here, from antelope to zebra, taking in lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo and the rarity that is the white rhino. You may even be lucky enough to spy a honey badger or brown hyena. There are no guarantees of course.
Has Nedile’s five star status been earned by the quality and splendour of each of its five thatched chalets? Quite possibly. It’s easy to see how maximum points were awarded by whoever did the inspecting. The rooms do not disappoint when it comes to style, luxury and the quality of the views, which are dominated by the Waterberg Mountains.
Two of the rooms are suitable for families, but wherever you stay, you can look forward to spending time on your private deck when the weather’s warm, and by the fireplace inside if the temperature is not so favourable. There are bathing facilities inside and outside the suites, plus a WI-FI signal, which gives you a great excuse to send pics of your surroundings back to friends and family who’ll most likely pretend not to be jealous.
This African themed centre point of the location will draw you in, especially when hunger strikes or you’ve got a thirst on. The dining room and bar will sort out those for you, while there’s a lounge to relax in afterwards. Three meals are served daily at Nedile, so you’ve little chance of hearing rumbling tummies around here.
Close to the lodge is the pool, more rock pool than swimming pool to be fair, but that’s by design, and it’s a great place for a dip after your safari drive or guided walk.
When you’re out in the bush, you’ll always be in the safe hands of rangers and trackers who’ll happily teach you a fair bit about the animal and plant life around these parts. Back at Nedile, you can take spa treatments to relax aching muscles and then round off the day with a spot of stargazing, before doing it all again after resting up in your chalet.
