Muchenje Safari Lodge is an independently owned Chobe lodge offering a scenic river setting and a personalised stay on the quieter western side of the park.

Enjoying an elevated position on the edge of a plateau within the Chobe Forest Reserve, with uninterrupted views of the Chobe River, a stay at this intimate lodge gives you a front-row seat to Botswana’s seasonal floodplains.

Featuring the best of both worlds, you’ll be on the quieter western side of the Chobe National Park, yet only two hours from Victoria Falls. The lodge is unfenced, allowing animals to roam freely and making the most of the wildlife-rich surroundings. If you’re lucky, you might spot four of the Big Five here, including some of the continent’s biggest elephant herds.

Back at the lodge, go for a refreshing swim in the pool, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, or relax in your cosy thatched cottage – your private deck offers ample opportunity to observe animals grazing on the plains below. Come evening, let owners Joy and Robert regale you with thrilling bush stories over sundowners around the fire pit, followed perhaps by a traditional braai in the boma.

Activities

Chobe National Park is renowned for its large herds of elephant and buffalo, and is home to numerous predators – you might spot lions and even elusive leopards. Muchenje’s five permanent guides and resident bird expert are all from the Chobe region and are highly experienced and passionate. Explore the region with them on morning and afternoon game drives, full-day safaris including a Chobe boat cruise, seasonal morning walks and night drives. In addition, the lodge also offers community visits and school trips.
