Drive along the coastal road that connects Camps Bay and Cape Town with Llandudno Beach and Hout Bay, and there’s only one property you’ll see. This brilliant white, 70-room, 5-star hotel overlooking the ocean and located close to the 6 km long mountain range that gives this spectacular destination its name. It’s easy to reach Cape Town from here, as well as the Constantia Wine Route, The V&A Waterfront, plus the beaches.
If you’ve stayed in a Red Carnation Hotel before – and The Twelve Apostles is part of the collection – you’ll know they go big on grandiose entrances to their properties, and the mirrored reception area here is no different. There will also be plenty of smiling staff to meet and greet you, so you can check-in with speed and ease.
It’s some achievement to ensure each of the 70 rooms in the hotel has unique features, but that’s what you get here. Top of the lot is the Presidential Suite, although you’re assured of luxury and views of either the mountains or the ocean from pretty much every room. They are divided into Classic, Milkwood, Mountain Facing, and Luxury Ocean View categories, with the best views available on the suites on the upper floors of the hotel.
Despite being designed differently, there are, of course, some features common to all suites, including an extremely comfortable bed, plenty of throws and cushions adorning the furnishings, an ensuite bathroom with a large tub and big shower, and free Wi-Fi.
The blue and white Azure offers fine dining with a capital F and D, as it was a recent winner (2020) of the Best Hotel Restaurant in South Africa award, thanks to the excellence of the menu and the quality of the views.
The Café Grill is a more laidback experience and somewhere you can enjoy panoramic views of Table Mountain National Park and try the Sushi by the Sea dish the place is famed for.
The Leopard Bar is the one to book for high tea and cocktails, served up to the soundtrack of live music by mixologists who no doubt never tire of the views they get of the Atlantic Ocean from their workplace. Try and get a table on the terrace if you can and if weather permits.
Other places to get refreshed are The Conservatory and the Apostles Braai where you can enjoy delicious South African style barbecues.
Dishes in all of the eateries are prepared using sustainable and organic ingredients of the highest quality, while the wines come from the vineyard Bouchard Finlayson.
This is tucked away in the basement of the hotel and is popular with Twelve Apostles patrons as well as locals.
There are two pools to choose from, and you’re sure to have a favourite before long. The hotel also has its own cinema, which offers a cosy viewing experience for up to 16. Of course, all the traditional movie theatre refreshments are available.
When staying at The Twelve Apostles in Cape Town, guests can enjoy a range of activities that blend relaxation and adventure. Unwind at the award-winning spa, take a dip in the scenic outdoor pools, or watch a film in the private cinema. Nature lovers can explore the nearby hiking trails of Table Mountain National Park or take a complimentary shuttle to the V&A Waterfront for shopping and sightseeing. Dining at the renowned Azure Restaurant offers a culinary experience with breathtaking ocean views, while the Leopard Bar is perfect for cocktails at sunset.
