Okonjima Lodge started with a conversion of the Hannsen family's farmhouse into what is now the Plains Camp. Then followed the up-scale Luxury Bush Camp, which offered more luxury and more intimacy. The Villa arrived to tip the scales of luxury and seclusion and was followed shortly after by The Bush Suite - an equally opulent den for couples, families and small groups.
A private annexe of the Bush Camp that comprises two suites and a central living area. Being the newest addition, the design, décor and luxury far exceeds expectations. It’s like having your own private African cottage in the bush, set with a view over the Acacia grassland, on the edge of a natural waterhole and with the Omboroko Mountains as a backdrop.
Offering exclusive use, the Bush Suite has a private chef, personal host and exclusive use of a game viewing vehicle. You won’t have to share your experience with other guests and your personal ranger will add a fascinating wildlife encounter to complete the package.
Luxurious. Leather. Lavish. The African décor of beads and baskets in neutral colours with warm accents and all the extras for comfort will make you feel right at home. You’re very own elegant “bush home” for the duration of your stay.
AfriCat Foundation; leopard viewing; AfriCat Carnivore Care Centre; Bushman trail; self-guided nature trails up to 8km; bird watching
The AfriCat Foundation is world-renowned for its conservation work with all predators, with the emphasis on cheetahs and leopards, and is the main attraction at Okonjima. Track leopards, hyaena and rhino, follow the Bushman trail, and game viewing and birdwatching on the 220 sq km reserve.
Children of all ages are welcome at the Bush Suite, but keep in mind that due to the nature of some activities, participation for children may be limited.
The AfriCat Foundation, established in 1991 in Namibia, focuses on the conservation of large carnivores, particularly leopards and brown hyenas, while addressing conflicts between wildlife and farmers. Okonjima, the home of the AfriCat Foundation, encompasses a 22,000-hectare reserve that supports its mission. The foundation emphasizes education and research, having reached about 20,000 children through its youth programs. While it rehabilitates injured animals, it now prioritizes partnerships for these efforts. The reserve offers tourism activities that promote conservation awareness and provide insights into local wildlife. Overall, AfriCat plays a crucial role in balancing predator conservation and sustainable farming in Namibia.
