Nambwa Campsite

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Nambwa is a rustic campsite bang in the middle of the Bwabwata National Park in the Caprivi (Zambezi) region in the north-east of Namibia. You’re in the heart of KAZA (Kavango-Zambezi) Conservation Area, the world’s largest wildlife conservation area - so you can be sure the wildlife is real, the wilderness raw and the experience wholesome.

Nambwa campsite comprises just four campsites on the river banks, shaded by old Jackalberry and Mopane trees. It’s rustic but there are more facilities than you would find at most campsites this remote. Sleep beneath the stars and to the sounds of hippos grunting in the distance - at least you hope that’s where they are. A rooftop tent is advised, unless you’re really brave. Having wildlife pass through camp is not unusual so be on the lookout.

Lots and lots of wildlife. Just drive around the park. Bird-watching too.

Sustainability

The Sijwa Project, launched by Chief Mayuni of the local conservancy in collaboration with African Monarch Lodges, is dedicated to addressing Namibia’s plastic waste issue. This initiative repurposes recyclable materials from the lodges and local communities into beautiful, marketable arts and crafts, while also supporting local artisans.

The project also runs an organic permaculture garden that’s enriched with compost and even elephant dung. Visitors can check out a variety of community activities like a cultural village, artisanal training, and a beehive project. If you’re staying at an African Monarch Lodge, you can visit the Sijwa Project to experience local culture, buy unique recycled crafts, and plant a tree, helping support this fantastic community initiative.
