About 30km from the southern entrance to Etosha, Mondjila Safari Camp, which means ‘to be on your way somewhere’ in Herero, is a good base for your Namibian wildlife safari.
Etosha is a unique wildlife destination with its iconic salt pan shimmering smack bang in the middle. This is indeed the largest pan in Africa and Etosha is one of the greatest game parks too. With limited accommodation options around, being this close is a bargain and although the camp is basic, the wildlife experience is anything but.
Mondjila is your typical Namibian stone-and-thatch safari camp; where immaculate lawns and gravel paths edge into the pure bushveld; and safari tents on a mosaic of stone and concrete bases peek out from behind the trees.
Accommodation is on the rustic side with chunky pine furniture, stone floors, basic amenities and a small en-suite bathroom. For all that, Mondjila Safari Camp is modestly priced and you're guaranteed a warm welcome, home-made food, that mesmerising view and a splendid night's rest.
Etosha is one of Africa's greatest game parks with prolific and varied wildlife. Naturally this is where you will spend most of your time.
Mondjila offers guided game drives into Etosha National Park, either half day or full day.
If you are self-driving, being just 30km away from the southern entrance gate you can explore this side of Etosha National Park at your own pace. Just be sure to enter the park at sunrise when the gate opens as the animals are usually more active before the heat of the day and again just before sunset, when the gates close, in the late afternoon.
Self-guided walks on the Mondjilia property.
