Eagle Island Lodge is situated on the secluded Xaxaba Island in the Okavango Delta, just imagine endless lush greenery, rushing water and wildlife all around you, now add luxury accommodation to the picture and you have found the jewel. If the name sounds familiar, you are not dreaming, this is the lodge that was used in the Out of Africa movie starring Meryl Streep. If you want to get a bit excited about your trip, just skip to the last few scenes of the movie for a glance at the lodge.
You won’t be staying on a movie set, but you will be staying in luxury safari tents with private patios and plunge pools, over-sized beds, an en-suite with both a shower and a bath. To top it off you can make use of that well deserved full board package with fluffy slippers and a bathrobe.
Tempting? Well that is just the inside, outside you still have the whole lodge to enjoy. Food is the next thing to look forward to on your stay and we can guaranty options. For the campfire journey, you can opt for a barbecue under the stars surrounded by lanterns and the great outdoors. For something more traditional you can head to the Fish-Eagle Bar. While this is a bar, you can arrange for a romantic dinner at this venue. Otherwise you can sneak in here for a night cap or join them for sundowners between 5pm and 7:30pm.
For meals, you can head to the dining area for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can even make your own pizza and order a glass of bubbly while you are at it.
Since we now know about the movie, helicopter rides won’t come as a surprise, but besides that you can go horseback riding, canoeing, explore the water on a motor boat and obviously there are game drives too. If you are staying in one of the private suites, you will have access to your own private vehicle for game drives and your own private guide. For something a bit slower and more intimate you can opt for a walking safari to see the little guys or you can go down to the village to meet the locals.
As you can see the options are limitless, so pop the bubbly, enjoy the sun and get comfortable in your slippers. Everything you need is right there, so you need not lift a finger beyond pressing the shutter button on your camera.
Helicopter rides, horseback riding as well as canoeing or motorboating.
You can also opt for the classic game drive, visit the local village and have evening sundowners.
