Ngepi Camp

Ngepi Camp

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Scoring 10 out of 10 for location, Ngepi Camp is on an island in the Okavango River in western Caprivi between the Mahango and Bwabwata National Parks and bordered by flooded summer swamps and winter savannah plains.

Accommodation at 'Nnn-ge-pee' is in family-sized bush huts with en suite bathrooms and, our favourite, en suite tree houses right on the river. You can also camp along the river under the deep shade of the generous river canopy.

The huts and tree-houses are simply constructed with reed walls, thatch roofs and wooden floors. Mozzie nets ensure a comfortable night's sleep a few paces from your private balcony and river view. Decor, in all its eco-friendly glory, is eclectic to say the least with open-air showers, handmade furniture, vivid colours and local arts and crafts at every turn.

The main lodge has a lively bar and restaurant, a curio shop, an education centre and free wi-fi.

While perfectly sited for an overnight stop, there is much to do at Ngepi to warrant an extra day or two.

Activities include guided river safaris and guided or self-drive game drives into the Bwabwata National Park across the river and the Mahango Game Reserve a short drive away. In the dry winter months, from May to October, you will have a fairly good chance of seeing elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, wild dog, zebra, giraffe, sable, roan, waterbuck and many other antelope. Birding in the Caprivi is exceptional year-round with over 400 species on record.

If you just want to relax, the jetty has a pool in the river or you can doze in your room to a backbeat of distant laughter - hippo and human alike.
