Jack's Camp

Jack's Camp

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Accommodation at Jack's Camp is in luxury safari tents crammed with antique furniture and elegantly decorated for a classic colonial safari feel. It's over the top yet mindful. En suite bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers and flushing toilets - in this remote wilderness that's not something you take for granted. A large shaded veranda looks out over the Kalahari. A vast and open plain. It's quite something to behold - both the location and the camp.

It's always been one to remember, but having undergone a full rebuild in 2021, it's back and it's even better. We didn't know that was possible. True story.

The living area matches the drama and romance of your living quarters at Jack's Camp. The theme becomes Arabian with Persian rugs, day beds, draped tents around a lounge, dining room and iconic tea tent with a view of the Kalahari all around you. It oozes the 1940's campaign style and with the guest tents at 270 square metres in size (split equally into indoor and outdoor living areas), it's fair to say it's elaborate. Think Natural History Museum meets new world safari camp and expect all the extras - an overhead cooling system (much needed in the desert) and your very own private plunge pool. We'll leave the rest for you to discover yourself. It's rather magical.

It is one of just three camps in a one million-acre private wildlife reserve and we mean it when we say it is one-of-a-kind to top that.

Activities

Walking safari led by San guides; game drives; scenic sundowner drives; eco-friendly quad bike trails across the pans; sleep-outs; meerkat and brown hyena observation and interactions. You can go horse riding too.

The safari experience at Jacks' Camp presents a unique and fascinating side of Botswana and the great Kalahari. The Makgadikgadi Pans are vast ancient lake beds strewn with fossilized artifacts and home to some fascinating desert-adapted wildlife like gemsbok, aardvark, springbok and the meerkats and brown hyena of documentary fame. You could see the Kalahari lions too. A really special sighting. Summer rains from November to January bring flamingos, pelicans and other migrants by the thousand and the second largest mammal migration in Africa has hordes of zebra, wildebeest and impala move south - with an army of predators in tow.
