Located on a private island in the middle of the Zambezi River, approximately 21 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls and right on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Chundu Island offers a tranquil safari retreat surrounded by the wilderness of Zambezi National Park.
Shaded by mature riverine trees and fringed by the fast-flowing waters of the Zambezi, the lodge enjoys a peaceful and secluded setting. The central guest area comprises comfortable indoor and outdoor lounge and dining spaces, a bar, and a swimming pool overlooking the river. Wildlife is frequently spotted from camp, while the surrounding waterways attract prolific birdlife throughout the year.
Accommodation consists of 8 spacious river-facing suites, including 2 family suites. Positioned amongst the trees along the riverbank and inspired by island living, the Seychelles-inspired open-plan suites are light and airy, featuring freestanding baths, outdoor showers, and private decks with daybeds overlooking the Zambezi.
Whether exploring the National Park in search of elephant, lion, buffalo, warthog, giraffe, hyena, and other wildlife, cruising the Zambezi at sunset, or simply relaxing by the pool, Chundu Island provides a laid-back base from which to experience both Victoria Falls and the surrounding wilderness. Back at the lodge, indulge in relaxing in-room massage treatments in-between activities.
You can make full use of the island’s unique setting on the Zambezi River with canoeing excursions, island walks, birding, and fishing. Sunset cruises offer a memorable way to experience the river, with game drives and guided walking safaris taking guests into Zambezi National Park. Visits to Victoria Falls can easily be arranged, and the kids’ programme includes fun activities such as treasure island hunts and mini raft races.
