Day 1 & 2: Victoria Falls (Zam) ( 2 nights )
Upon arrival at Livingstone Airport, you will be met and transferred by road to the lodge where you will stay for 2 nights.
On the way: The Zambezi River flows through a dense ribbon of ebony and mahogany trees on its way to the thundering Victoria Falls a few km away. Your lodge lines the river with wonderful private views of this magical scenery. Depending on your time of arrival, enjoy an afternoon activity or simply relax for the remainder of the day.
When you're there: Explore the river, its islands and wildlife and of course spend a day at Victoria Falls, 15 mins' drive from the lodge.
Activities at Victoria Falls are many and varied. From experiencing the evocative beauty of Victoria Falls at ground-level it's time to take to the skies for an even more impressive view. Livingstone Island, just above the precipice of the falls, is probably the world's most sensational lunch venue. Other activities, among a raft of others, include sunset river cruises, canoeing safaris, cultural excursions to the lodge community projects and excellent birding and tiger fishing on the Zambezi. Your itinerary includes an African Queen sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, a guided tour of the Falls (Zambian side) and a 15 minute Helicopter flight over the falls.
The Royal Livingstone
Day 3, 4 & 5: Kafue National Park ( 3 nights )
On the way: This morning you will be collected and transferred by private road transfer to Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp. The transfer is roughly 3 hours from Livingstone to the Dundumwezi Gate. You will be greeted at the gate by a smile, a cool drink and a further 2 hour game drive to your Kafue safari lodge.
When you're there: Situated in the southern section of Kafue National Park, the habitats include riverine forests, floodplains, dense wooded plains and open grasslands that turn to swamps in the rainy season.
Wildlife in the Kafue includes animals not seen anywhere else in Zambia, and rarely seen in the whole of southern Africa. The Kafue is your best chance of seeing cheetah in Zambia and the large herds of puku, impala, hartebeest, roan and sable attract the attention of lion and leopard. Birdlife, like everywhere in Zambia, is prolific with water and woodland types in abundance.
Activities included: guided walking nature trails, river safaris, game drives and night drives, which often follow the active lions as they search for prey.
Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp
Day 6 & 7: Lower Zambezi National Park ( 2 nights )
On the way: About four hours from lodge to lodge, the light aircraft transfer to the Lower Zambezi National Park starts and ends with a game drive. As you arrive, the Zambezi unfurls to reveal a network of channels, lagoons and islands dotted with elephant, buffalo and hippos. That's for starters.
When you're there: The game drive from airstrip to lodge introduces the scenery and the wildlife of the Lower Zam Park and your safari here is quite different from the safari in the Kafue.
Safari activities focus on the river with canoeing, sunset cruises and motor boat safaris. You can also go on game drives through the park and, not to be outdone, walking safaris also feature in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
The picturesque Zambezi Valley is a haven for Africa's big game. In addition to those elephants, buffalos and hippos, the river attracts some monstrous crocodiles, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, kudu, wildebeest and many other species of plains game. Birds like it here too and there is always something to do between game viewing activities.
*Your scheduled camp activities are included in your stay.
Royal Zambezi Lodge
Day 8, 9 & 10: South Luangwa National Park ( 3 nights )
A final game drive will take you to the Royal Airstrip for a quick charter flight off the beaten track to the Mfuwe Airport near South Luangwa National Park.
Arriving at Mfuwe Airport, you will immediately sense the raw wilderness of Zambia. Your guide will meet you and your discovery of this corner of Zambia begins.
On the way: On the way to your safari lodge in the South Luangwa National Park, you will drive through the villages and conservation area that provides a buffer between game reserve and public land known in Zambia as a Game Management Area (GMA). The villages are vibrant slices of Africa with progressive conservation practices encourage the protection of the indigenous flora and fauna.
When you're there: Nkwali Lodge is on the edge of the South Luangwa Park and the Luangwa River is the focal point here. With lagoons, channels and broad flood plains, the game viewing is excellent.
Walking safaris, with an expert guide, are a highlight in the South Luangwa National Park and the fascinating discoveries you make along the way have the added excitement of being in a big game wilderness area. Lions, elephant, buffalo, leopard, hyena and many large herbivores lay claim to these lands and you'll be thankful for the vigilance and experience of your armed ranger.
*All schedule camp activities included.
Day 11: Lusaka ( Departure / End of Tour )
Your final day offers one last game viewing activity before the game-drive transfer to the airstrip and your onward flight to Lusaka to mark the end of an amazing Zambian safari.
