The Old and the New - Refurbished
Yes, the international recession also affected us here in the southern part of Africa with 2009 and 2010 being very difficult years. However, there are new developments and the lodge owners are positive and investing for a better future!
NEW LODGE – Camp Chobe
This new lodge is being built, and owned by Johan Liebenberg, owner of Camp Kwando which is situated on the banks of the Kwando River.
Camp Chobe was born from the desire to offer a new exciting experience to tourists, by exploring Chobe from the flood plains on the Namibian side.
Camp Chobe is on the Namibian side, 3 km north east from the Ngoma border post on the banks of the Chobe river overlooking the Chobe National Park.
Built on the river edge from poles and canvas, chalets are elevated above water overlooking the Chobe river floodplains, they are spacious, very private and eco friendly. Their unique position also ensures spectacular game viewing and bird watching. This first phase consists of 12 chalets and will be finished end of July 2012.
Camp Chobe also has a camping site and has self catering facilities. The flood plains can be explored and game viewed with our guides on foot, by bike or by boat.
UP-GRADED LODGE – Mowani Mountain Camp
Mowani Mountain Camp is one of the top lodges in the Twyfelfontein area of Namibia. Now they have taken it one step further with an exciting rebuild and superb changes.
What is new... The tents were broken down, rebuilt and enlarged by over 30% Tents were changed into rooms with dramatic domed roofs and spectacular decks Room interiors were invigorated with new splashes of style and washed wood floors Guests areas were renewed and enhanced Staff were re-energized
LODGE RENOVATION – Etendeka Mountain Camp
Dennis Liebenburg, in partnership with Big Sky Lodges, have finally signed a new joint venture Concession Agreement between the Anabeb and Omatendeka Concervancies for the long term use of the Etendeka Concession to operate Etendeka Mountain Camp.
The conservancies have raised funds to completely renovate the existing camp to ensure that the camp is in line with current standards of Namibian tourism and to be in line with levels of comfort Big Sky Lodges guests have come to enjoy.
In the renovations, the main area will be completely rebuilt in the same stunning location as the previous building. Trever Nott who will be building the camp is using lots of local materials combined with rustic metals and wood in order to create the type of building art that he has become so well known for throughout Namibia.
The tents, although all new, will now be overlooked with some work on the bathrooms and additional shading for afternoon siestas.
Etendeka has become well known for offering an amazing Namibian experience with all guests being hosted and guided by Dennis and his assistant manager Bonnie and this will not change. The focus at Etendeka is offering guests a unique wilderness experience in a truly remote and spectacular environment of Damaraland.
