Botswana Educational

It was yet another week out of the office as the NTS team of consultants embarked on an educational tour to Botswana. The general drive was fabulous as we had to leave early with Edward on the steering as usual.

It was a long and hot day as we drove through into Botswana heading for Edo's Camp, were we spent the fist night. It was surprising how we missed the Edo's Camp turn off from the main road as we drove almost 50km away. This was a bid lesson to be leant as we are always designing self drive itineraries for clients. We had to contact Danie who finally came to our rescue and directed us back to Edo's Camp.

Steven was there to meet us and guide us all the way to the Tented Camp. We were met with some amazing sites of all sorts of wildlife… mainly Rhino and the lovely sight of the huge cat fish in the flood lit waterhole. The peaceful environment with the fresh natural air made sure the NTS team had a magical rest after the long drive. Dinner was served with the management team joining us.

The following day the NTS team was off to Maun were we arrived to a warm welcome at Delta air before we took off on one of their comfortable planes deep into the Okavango Delta. We landed at Odds Ball Camp in about 30 minutes… a short and bumpy flight. The camp is situated on the edge of Chief's Island with dome tents, fully equipped, and set on elevated wooden decks shaded by reed shelters.

Whilst at Odd Bulls Camp we were joined by Jackie from South Africa, Yvonne from Windhoek and Danny from Maun who were to form part of the team on this educational tour. Soon we were off to Delta Camp. The transfer was in mokoro boats. A fantastic and unforgettable experience as we found our way through the thick grasses of the Okavango Delta. With our fantastic guide “Poison” leading his team we were at Delta Camp if about 25 minutes. This was perhaps one of the main highlights of the educational tour with Edward and Patrick singing along to some music with the Hippos not to be outdone as they sang along... Another warm welcome at Delta Camp complimented the wonderful natural environment. Arriving just in time for lunch the NTS the staff were just fantastic. This was the most amazing, natural and refreshing place to stay, situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, offering understated luxury combined with superb personalised service.

Delta Camp

Soon we were taken on a tour of Delta Camp as we were allocated chalets as Olga couldn't understand why she had to stay at "the end of the world" with the free movement of elephants and hippos in mind. Edward and Patrick probably had the best, spending the night in the tree house... We finished the day off with a magical sundowner and well deserved dinner with Peter, the owner joining us.

The following day. We had an early morning as we were back in our mokoros to the Moremi Game reserve were we had a wonderful game walk. The highlight was probably Olga's million dollar question... "what colour is a Zebras stripes"...

Soon we were back at the camp and off to Odd Balls Camp were we took another flight to Bushman Grasslands Lodge. Enroute we made a quick stop at Mapula Lodge for sight inspection were we were welcomed to some beautiful welcome songs from the Mapula staff. Mapula Lodge has flowing water all year round. Wonderful game viewing by boat, safari vehicle or taking a walking safari. Mapula Lodge combines the best of exotic African scenery, wildlife, culture and comfort.

On our way back to the airstrip, the view of large herds of elephants couldn't have come at a better time, as we stopped a few metes away for photos before we headed back to the airstrip. We took off heading to Bushman Grasslands Lodge.

The bushman excursion is definitely a must for anyone going to Botswana. It was interesting to learn about their way of living and survival tactics in the arid land of the Kalahari.

There was enough time for some games as Olga was at it again... Asked what a habitat is... "a living organism"... she truly left everyone on their knees…

From Bushman Grasslands we were on our way to our last destination, Deception Valley. Here we went on a night drive on the day of arrival and it was interesting to track the lions and view the numerous wildlife at night...

The morning game drive and Bushman experience were equally impressive as we finished off our stay with some refreshments at the lounge area before we took off back to Maun were the Educational tour ended.
