Getting In and Around
As African countries go, Namibia is one of the easiest to visit. The capital receives daily flights from Europe and South Africa. Smaller cities have regional airports and hundreds of airstrips dotted around the country receive chartered light aircraft.
Regional trunk roads are in excellent condition and all are paved. The road network within the country is good with national trunk roads all paved and secondary routes of well-graded gravel. A sedan or 2WD vehicle is sufficient for most destinations.
Buses operate between most of the towns with several regional links to neighbouring countries. The train service is slow and expensive although some private companies operate luxury rail trips that are an excellent way to experience the country.
Tour companies offer private and group tours that are a good way to make the most of your time. Private tours are more expensive but they can be tailor-made and flexible en route and your guide will be friendly, personal and extremely well-versed in the natural world. Group tours are a fun and economical way to discover Namibia with the least fuss, effort and cost.
Self-drive tours are an exciting and flexible way to explore the country. With our good advice, you can have a relaxed, hassle-free and economical holiday in Namibia.
