Get here quick before everybody else does.
Namibia is almost uninhabited. While its population of 2 million could fit into Houston, the country covers an area much greater than Texas. In European terms that is more than two Germanys combined. In the race for least densely populated country in the world, Namibia finishes second after Mongolia with just 2.5 people per sq km.
The country is characterised by vast tracts of barely inhabited land and small pockets of populated settlements. Off the main roads you can drive for days and not see a soul.
Despite its meagre supply of residents, the country has a stable economy and a good infrastructure. This and a wealth of fascinating attractions makes Namibia one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world. Our advice: get here quick before the rest of the world catches on.
The Economy
Namibia's major industries are mining, fishing, agriculture and tourism. The country is heavily reliant on imports from South Africa and its currency, the Namibian Dollar, is pegged to and interchangeable with the South African Rand.
