Tour Brief

The 6-day Victoria Falls and Wildlife Safari Adventure is a safari add-on to a Victoria Falls visit. The safari can be added to the end of your Victoria Falls stay or you can finish off with Victoria Falls. We recommend the latter so you can use the spray of the mighty falls to wash off all the dust from your days in the bush.

The safari adventure begins on the banks of the Zambezi River inside the Upper Zambezi National Park, which, together with the Victoria Falls National Park creates an area along the river of 56,000 hectares. Big. The Zambezi Park has dense teak and mahogany woodlands and are rich in riparian and plains species of mammal - including the big plus the crocs and hippos - and impressive birdlife.

Next up it's Hwange National Park , a huge swathe of protected land just south of Victoria Falls. The park is known for its wild dog, rhino, elephant, buffalo and lion. And with over 100 species on record, Hwange is one of the most diverse game reserves in the region all but guaranteeing a first class safari.

Both game reserves included in the Victoria Falls safari adventure are a short drive from Vic Falls making this tour a great one for getting to the action quickly with minimum fuss or transfer time. You can be sipping your afternoon G n' T watching elephants drink at a waterhole within an hour of leaving Vic Falls.

Accommodation on this adventure safari is in pre-erected mobile safari camps located in private and exclusive sites inside the game reserve. This is a rare and privileged opportunity to camp in the wilderness with every amenity catered and in complete safety - the best of all possible worlds.

Camp description: in a private and exclusive location your camp features large tents of 3.5m x 6m with comfortable beds, full bedding, en suite bathroom (hot water provided) and eco-toilets, and a private sitting area in front; dine or relax in the living tent with proper chairs and inevitably a fine view of the passing wilderness and permanent aural contact with the bush.

Each campsite is built and serviced by a dedicated team of camp staff including a first-rate chef who you could easily confuse with a magician as he whips up astonishing meals over the campfire.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 and 2: Upper Zambezi National Park, Victoria Falls

Your safari starts early on day 1 with a pick-up from your hotel of choice in Victoria Falls . Talk to your Travel Expert about where to stay in Victoria Falls and of course we'll make these bookings for you as well.

From your hotel we drive directly into the Zambezi National Park along the Zambezi River about 10km upstream from Victoria Falls and the town. We'll spend the morning on a game drive inside the park followed by lunch, a doze and then a game drive or optional (highly recommended) canoe safari on the river.

Return to your private safari camp for a dinner under the stars and a dreamy night under canvas in complete safety.

The next morning we'll enjoy a guided walking safari - a game drive option is available if you'd prefer - followed by a well-earned brunch and a gentle siesta. For the serious game viewer, birder or water-lover, we'll take an optional game drive or canoe safari in the afternoon returning in time for another magnificent bush dinner.

The Zambezi National Park is 56,000 ha of protected wilderness along the Zambezi River starting at Victoria Falls and travelling upstream for about 40km. The park is home to the famous five: elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard as well as zebra, giraffe and many species of antelope including the rare sable and eland.

Birdlife is good with riparian and miombo woodland habitats supporting a great diversity of species. And being on the Zambezi River you have the added bonus of the fabled canoe safari and aquatic mammals like hippos, crocodiles, water monitors and many birds. Fishing is also excellent with the sporty Tiger being an obsession in these parts.

Day three in the Zambezi National Park and you'll be well into the swing of things by now. We'll start with a refreshing early morning game drive activity before heading out to Hwange National Park for part two of the Victoria Falls Adventure Safari.

Accommodation: Fully serviced mobile-style safari camp

  • Day 3, 4 and 5: Hwange National Park

The journey from the Zambezi National Park past Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park is about a four-hour game drive. The time it takes depends on what you see en route and for how long you stop at each sighting. Your private camp will be set up ahead of you as you arrive in time for lunch, a doze and your fist Hwange safari game drive.

At 14,600sq km, Hwange is a large, pristine and scenic game reserve - mid-way in size between Chobe National Park and Kruger National Park and vying with the greats for "Best Game Reserve in Africa" status.

Along with its size comes great diversity of habitats and Hwange is known for its high wildlife and bird populations. With 420 bird species and 105 mammals recorded it is one of the most diverse game reserves in Africa.

For many, the camping is almost the highlight of their Hwange safari but the thrill of tracking a rhino or watching a herd of elephants drink at sunset cannot be matched.

Hwange National Park has many waterholes that ensure varied and reliable game viewing. Hwange is famous for its predators and its great herds of elephant and buffalo. The largest population of the extremely rare African dog thrives in Hwange and the birdlife is prolific.

Spend the next three days exploring the waterholes and diverse habitats of Hwange for wildlife, birdlife and great sunsets.

Accommodation: Fully serviced mobile-style safari camp

  • Day 6: Victoria Falls

A safari game drive through Hwange National Park takes us back to Victoria Falls in time for lunch and the end of your safari. We recommend adding two nights in Victoria Falls to explore the beautiful cascade and enjoy the myriad activities on display. While not included in this itinerary, we can advise and make bookings for extra nights in Victoria Falls at your request.

“Thanks for all your work putting together a holiday we truly loved”

We would like to commend the high service received from Namibian Tours and Safaris especially taking into account the short length of time you had to arrange this holiday for us. The recommendations and itinerary were ideal with the majority of our stay in each location being the right duration. The whole process of booking this holiday was hassle free and we would not hesitate in recommending your services to others.

We would specifically like to thank you, Alison, for all of your hard work which resulted in a truly fabulous holiday for us. Also, it was great to meet up with you in Solitaire where you expressed so much love for your country and this was clearly mirrored in the schedule and service you presented to us allowing us to experience this fantastic country. It will not be the case of 'if' we return to Namibia, it is more the case of 'when' we will return as we enjoyed it so much.

“Edward did a super job”

A special mention for Edward he did a super job – vouchers and maps were with our car hire agency at the airport – book presentation of whole trip was clear, easy to follow and complete. He even gave us his mobile No in case we encounter some problems. Really to recommend as Tour Operator and will use them again next time.

Road – all went well and thanks to have recommended a 4Wheel Drive Car – due to rough road conditions we appreciated – you could do it with a normal car and met tourists with B type cars but they took much longer for the journeys – had more issues with flat tyres and most admitted next time they will take a 4Wheel Drive Car.

Would like to thank you for all your time spent and hard work to find best places, difficult tasks due to budget restrictions. I will recommend you and your agency whenever I can – actually already did in Joburg – hope brings you some new customers - and of course will come to you for my next trip this time to South Africa hopefully in 2012.

“Thank you again for planning a perfect vacation for us”

Dear Wilmari,
Back home and I wanted to take a moment to thank you again for planning a perfect vacation for us. I was especially pleased that for the accommodation with dinner all knew about my allergies and cooked accordingly. The Cheetah experience made my daughter very happy and they were so kind to not even charge me for taking pictures.

Highlight of our trip was the stay in Onguma The Fort and we are determined to return one day.

As pointed out before, the Namib Desert Lodge I cannot recommend to anybody (fined for driving on their property and below average dinner buffet) and also the Olivia Guesthouse was a letdown when it came to the food (lunch and breakfast).

I have posted some pictures on Flickr, maybe you want to have a look and I'm always happy to read comments.

Last but not least: Could you please send us the itinerary you prepared for us and we received at arrival electronically? Some of my friends are interested to book the same trip with you.
