The Namibia Highlights Fly-in is an extended 9-day version of the the ever-popular Namibia Highlights Fly-in Safari adding the charming coastal town of Swakopmund to Namibia's more famous attractions of Sossusvlei, Damaraland and Etosha National Park.

Starting and ending in Namibia's capital city, Windhoek, you will fly over the great sand sea to Sossusvlei; then over the Skeleton Coast to Swakopmund and Damaraland; and you will top it all with a classic big game safari in Etosha.

This fly-in tour is reversible and available in three levels of comfort: ultra-luxury, luxury and standard. You can also extend or reduce the itinerary by as many days as you wish to include your choice of Namibia's other major destinations like Kaokoland, Fish River Canyon and the Caprivi.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 and 2: Sossusvlei

From Windhoek International Airport or Eros Domestic you will fly over the Khomas Hochland and the Naukluft Mountains down the 1000m escarpment to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert.

On the way: A sneak preview of Sossusvlei - the main attraction - as seen from the air will reveal an endless sea of copper-and-ochre sand dunes stretching to the Skeleton Coast and the Atlantic Sea.

When you're there: Your must-do activity is an excursion into Sossusvlei. Wander about Dead Pan, with its eerie dream-like collection of petrified acacia trees and red dunes rising sheer from the salt-white pan. Climb a dune and capture the full force of a sea of red sand dunes as far as you can see... at sunrise.

Back on your private nature reserve you can take scenic game drives into the desert looking for creatures great, small and odd. Sunsets are saluted in traditional African fashion and the evening under the desert sky will lull you into a deep and peaceful sleep.

    Accommodation:
Standard: Desert Homestead (Dinner, bed and breakfast)
Luxury: Hoodia Desert Lodge (Fully inclusive)
Ultra-luxury: Little Kulala Lodge (Fully inclusive)

  • Day 3 and 4: Swakopmund

When you've had your fill of cloudless blue skies, vast open spaces, ever-changing hues and pristine wilderness it's time for something altogether different - Swakopmund with its Atlantic mist, Moon Landscapes and a tempestuous sea brimming with life.

On the way: As you fly over the NamibNaukluft, one of the world's largest nature reserves, the land changes from dunes and mountains to vast plains that collide with a dune belt along the Skeleton Coast past Conception Bay, Sandwich Harbour and Walvis Bay. It's a pretty scenic flight.

When you're there: Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are thriving towns on the Skeleton Coast. The former taking center stage for its German heritage, fine restaurants and fascinating living desert tours; Walvis Bay is an important harbour on this barren west coast and its appeal lies in the huge natural lagoon that supports an astonishing number of bird and marine species.

With so many restaurants and cafés we generally book bed only or bed and breakfast only accommodation so you can explore and experience life on the Skeleton Coast at your own pace and in your own style.

Between the two towns, the activities on offer will easily fill your days.

    Accommodation:
Standard: Swakopmund Guesthouse (Bed and breakfast)
Luxury: Zum Kaiser Hotel (Bed and breakfast)
Ultra-luxury: Strand Hotel (Bed and breakfast)

  • Day 5 and 6: Damaraland

From cool, calm and quirky Swakopmund it's time to get hot and wild again as you head for Damaraland - another iconic Namibian destination.

On the way: You will fly along the desolate Skeleton Coast over a shipwreck and then inland to the multi-textured terrain of rocky mountains, grassy plains, parched riverbeds and barely a sign of human activity for hundreds of kilometres in every direction.

When you're there: Twyfelfontein is the scene of Africa's most concentrated collection of San rock art and desert-adapted wildlife make for alluring game viewing as you track down elephant, lion, giraffe, many antelope species and many more birds.

    Accommodation:
Standard: Camp Kipwe (Dinner, bed and breakfast)
    Luxury: Camp Kipwe (Full board)
Ultra-luxury: Mowani Mountain Camp (Fully inclusive)

  • Day 7 and 8: Etosha National Park

Your mid-morning flight takes you over Damaraland to Etosha National Park - one of Africa's great game reserves.

On the way: As you fly over Damaraland the land rises and levels out to form game-rich savannah plains that support the spectrum of southern African wildlife and several endemics to boot.

When you're there: No visit to Namibia would be complete without a safari in Etosha National Park. Your two days in Etosha offer the traditional classic African wildlife safari with all of the big game and plains species present in great numbers. Top this with a unique national park that has a massive salt pan in the middle surrounded by natural waterholes and you have an exceptional game viewing experience.

    Accommodation:
Standard: Mushara Bushcamp (Dinner, bed and breakfast)
    Luxury: Mushara Outpost (Fully inclusive)
    Ultra-luxury: The Fort (Fully inclusive)

  • Day 9: Windhoek

Bid farewell to the wildlife, the peace and tranquillity and the unspoiled scenery as you fly back to Windhoek in time to catch your outbound flight at the end of your extended Namibia highlights fly-in safari.

“Thanks for all your work putting together a holiday we truly loved”

We would like to commend the high service received from Namibian Tours and Safaris especially taking into account the short length of time you had to arrange this holiday for us. The recommendations and itinerary were ideal with the majority of our stay in each location being the right duration. The whole process of booking this holiday was hassle free and we would not hesitate in recommending your services to others.

We would specifically like to thank you, Alison, for all of your hard work which resulted in a truly fabulous holiday for us. Also, it was great to meet up with you in Solitaire where you expressed so much love for your country and this was clearly mirrored in the schedule and service you presented to us allowing us to experience this fantastic country. It will not be the case of 'if' we return to Namibia, it is more the case of 'when' we will return as we enjoyed it so much.

“Edward did a super job”

A special mention for Edward he did a super job – vouchers and maps were with our car hire agency at the airport – book presentation of whole trip was clear, easy to follow and complete. He even gave us his mobile No in case we encounter some problems. Really to recommend as Tour Operator and will use them again next time.

Road – all went well and thanks to have recommended a 4Wheel Drive Car – due to rough road conditions we appreciated – you could do it with a normal car and met tourists with B type cars but they took much longer for the journeys – had more issues with flat tyres and most admitted next time they will take a 4Wheel Drive Car.

Would like to thank you for all your time spent and hard work to find best places, difficult tasks due to budget restrictions. I will recommend you and your agency whenever I can – actually already did in Joburg – hope brings you some new customers - and of course will come to you for my next trip this time to South Africa hopefully in 2012.

“Thank you again for planning a perfect vacation for us”

Dear Wilmari,
Back home and I wanted to take a moment to thank you again for planning a perfect vacation for us. I was especially pleased that for the accommodation with dinner all knew about my allergies and cooked accordingly. The Cheetah experience made my daughter very happy and they were so kind to not even charge me for taking pictures.

Highlight of our trip was the stay in Onguma The Fort and we are determined to return one day.

As pointed out before, the Namib Desert Lodge I cannot recommend to anybody (fined for driving on their property and below average dinner buffet) and also the Olivia Guesthouse was a letdown when it came to the food (lunch and breakfast).

I have posted some pictures on Flickr, maybe you want to have a look and I'm always happy to read comments.

Last but not least: Could you please send us the itinerary you prepared for us and we received at arrival electronically? Some of my friends are interested to book the same trip with you.
