Location: Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia
Accommodation Description
With huge white draped marquees beneath the sausage and mahogany trees along the Zambezi River, Sausage Tree Camp looks more like a delicious wedding venue than a luxury safari lodge in the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia.
And the romance continues throughout your stay with dinners under the stars, lunch in the river and surprises dreamt up by your impish Muchinda (that's the local definition of a personal host and butler).
Accommodation at Sausage Tree Camp is in six large suites with reed walls and an organic open-air bathroom. Large four-posters are draped with mosquito nets and your view from the private balcony is a foliage-framed montage of river, island and (frequently) elephant and hippo.
The living area and open deck have a wonderful view of the Zambezi River and its big game visitors; excellent food and wine pairings follow a treasure trail of exotic settings.
Facilities
Fully inclusive accommodation; six luxury en suite safari tents with rustic reed walls; open-air showers; opulent honeymoon suite; shaded lounge and open game viewing deck; swimming pool; open March to November
Activities
Excellent game viewing, birding and fishing; canoe and motor boat safaris; walking safaris; game drives; night drives
Water safaris - on motor boats or canoes - offer a complete contrast to your previous safari destinations where you probably spent most of your time on land tracking wildlife through the bush. Game drives by night and day introduce the plains of this great river valley. The sport fishing is excellent with the vigourous tiger and a few African oddities putting up a tremendous fight. Birding is excellent and your guides are well-schooled and their enthusiasm for the bush is intoxicating.
