Accommodation Description

The Daan Viljoen Game Park is a 20-minute drive west of Windhoek. Including some of the Khomas Hochland Mountains, the park is typical of Namibia's highland habitat and supports good numbers of animals and over 200 species of birds including some of Namibia's endemics.

Accommodation is at the government-run Daan Viljoen Resort overlooking a small dam that is a popular recreation retreat for Windhoek residents. The resort offers basic bungalows and has a restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool and a small shop.

With an absence of predatory wildlife, the park offers several excellent walking trails ranging from 3km to 32km. Animals you're likely to encounter include Hartmann's mountain zebra, klipspringer, steenbok, kudu, springbok, blue wildebeest, eland and red hartebeest. Endemic birds to look out for include rockrunner, Damara rockjumper, white-tailed shrike, Monteiro's hornbill,Rüppell's parrot and the rosyfaced lovebird.
