Skeleton Coast Camp
The Skeleton Coast Camp has closed indefinitely. Word is a new Skeleton Coast camp is in the pipeline and we'll keep you posted.
Update (Jan. 2014): Latest news is that Wilderness Safaris will not be re-building Skeleton Coast Camp. Hopefully another operator will take over the concession so we can offer trips to this, the most remote region of Namibia. We'll keep you posted.
Alas! The only luxury lodge on the Skeleton Coast was destroyed by fire in 2012. The silver lining to this dark cloud is Wilderness Safaris have secured a new concession nearby on the Hoanib river valley and plan to open a new luxury camp, which will be called Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp.
The announcement of the new safari camp from Wilderness Safaris includes some sensationally juicy attractions. We can't wait.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp will be located in the Hoanib valley in the northern reaches of the Palmwag Concession. Activities (game drives and walking) will access the game rich riverbed (elephant, giraffe, lion, oryx), the plains, river valleys and hillsides to the south (black rhino, oryx, mountain zebra, springbok) and most importantly the downstream reaches of the Hoanib riverbed in the Skeleton Coast National Park. This last area has a very important seep and water system that is frequented by many different game species, as it cuts through a spectacular dune field and accesses the Atlantic Ocean coastline. We expect that the new camp will be a 9-roomed Classic camp, with 8 twins and 1 family room.
We await the announcement of an opening date with baited breath and will report here on any new developments of this exciting project.
In the meantime, we recommend the following excellent alternatives to the Skeleton Coast Camp. They offer the same level of luxury and exclusive experience. Your game viewing and desert experiences will be just as good.
