Accommodation Description

The Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch is on the western edge of the Kalahari, about 50km from Mariental. Surrounded by red dunes, bleached blonde grass and a spattering of acacias, this is the Kalahari of storybooks and documentaries.

Owners Fred and Onie have made the transition from game ranch to luxurious lodge with little impact on the delicate ecosystem. The lodge has ten air-conditioned chalets: four on stilts atop a dune, the remainder on the valley floor and built with straw bales. All are en suite and the dune chalets have a bath as well as a shower.

The main lodge is a comfortable and stylish focal point with a library, lounge, cellar, bar, open-air dining area and a swimming pool. The whole looks out over a waterhole and the parallel ridges of red dunes that form grass-covered streets in the desert.

You will share your place in the sun with a menagerie of habituated wildlife and four protected cheetahs; giraffe love the acacia trees and are always at hand to complete that classic Kalahari photo.
