Location: Caprivi, Wild Namibia
Accommodation Description
Ntwala Island Lodge is the pièce de résistance in a tour de force of remote riverine lodges owned and managed by the Islands in Africa group.
Situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers – big names in the geography of southern Africa – Ntwala Island Lodge also the dubious accolade of being the only place in the world where four countries join.
But you'll care more for the sublime and sumptuous luxury of your quarters than for trifling geography lessons and priceless facts. Your quaint arrival by boat and the charming floating platform belie the grandiose luxury of your private villa-suite with a bed so wide it has no common name and a bathroom so large it calls itself an atrium. A private deck and plunge pool hover above the turbulent river – we'll try and book you into suites 3 or 4 which have hammock chairs swaying beneath the trees.
Facilities
Full board accommodation, massive private suites with en suite bathroom, outdoor shower, private deck and plunge pool and secluded river views; floating walkways, al fresco dining, wine cellar; personal guide and game-viewing boat.
Activities
Game viewing boat rides to Chobe National Park; fishing; birding; island walks; community programmes; day trip to Victoria Falls.
Game viewing by motorised craft is exceptional with elephantine Chobe Game Park down the river and a TV show of wildlife along the rivers' banks. The island itself is a haven for several days' worth of birding and beyond the luxury of your lodge a community of Caprivians go about their lives in self-sustaining if impoverished contentment.
