In parts of Namibia you tend to feel like an ill-prepared explorer just landed on Mars. To continue the fantasy, no small suspension of disbelief is required when you arrive at Wolvedans - a collection of lodges so serene, so natural, they could only be at home in the Namib Desert.

Wolwedans Dunes Lodge has nine luxurious shacks on stilts with corrugated iron roofs, roll-down canvas sides and enormous bathrooms. The views - available in abundance in every direction - are not of this earth. If you take your luxury and privacy a little more seriously than most, you can opt for the Mountain View Suite, which has nothing to do with the main lodge - if you so desire.

The main lodge is also on stilts and the lounges, dining rooms, library and wine cellar are surrounded by a platter of sun decks, verandahs and a swimming pool. The food has critics flying in from all corners smacking their chops in glee; the service and attention to detail are tempered only by a manic commitment to your personal privacy.

The pinnacle of luxury and seclusion lies in a small valley adjacent to the lodge and is called Wolwedans Private Camp. The villa has two suites and the same leather-bound luxury of Wolwedans Dunes Lodge. Choose to be left alone and fend for yourself in the kitchen; or you can opt for the Full Monty with a private chef and a personal safari.
