Sossus Oasis Campsite
More a glampsite than a campsite, Sossus Oasis Campsite is an exceptional and much needed camping option in the Sossusvlei area hitherto dominated by the government-run Sesriem Campsite nearby.
At the edge of Sossusvlei Park, Sossus Oasis Campsite features private ablutions and a shaded wash-up and sitting area. Water is piping hot thanks to the year-round sunshine baking the solar heaters and each campsite is equiped with electricity, shower, flushing toilet, kitchen area with a washing up basin and piped water. Like we said, more glamping than camping by Namibia’s wild standards.
Location is key here as you are right at the entrance to Sossusvlei whereas many other self-drive and camping options are a good half hour to an hour’s drive from the Sossusvlei Park entrance. The park entrance itself is an hour’s drive from the famous dunes of Sossusvlei so it makes sense to base yourself as close to the gate as possible to beat the crowds and get the most of the sunrise light.
With Sossus Oasis Campsite we finally have a viable alternative to Sesriem Campsite which is basic at best. The only advantage Sesriem has over all other accommodation options in Sossusvlei is that you have access to the park an hour earlier than anyone else. A big deal if you are a serious photography; not a big deal if you aren’t particularly fond of pre-dawn risings and more into enjoying the whole experience of camping in what surely must be one of the world’s most beautiful deserts.
12 campsites each with private ablutions - shower, wash basin and toilet; shaded dining area with wash-up and preparation area; solar-heated running water; 220V electricity; braai (barbecue); swimming pool; service station (fuel, shop, supplies and internet cafe)
Self-drive and guided excursions into Sossusvlei - the world’s highest dunes; nature walks; eco-friendly quad bike tours; hot air ballooning; sunset drives; bush dinners; scenic flights
