Accommodation Description

Namib Desert Lodge - large by Namibia's standards with 55 rooms - is a comfortable lodge in a spectacular private concession about 60km north of Sesriem. The lodge is built at the foot of the fossilised dunes on the edge of the great sand sea that is the Namib Desert.

The main lodge is a charming stone and thatch construction built around a large pool and your source of shade, a cool breeze and an iced drink. Inside there is a cosy lounge for those cool desert winter evenings as well as the restaurant and wine bar. Warm evenings will see you out on the terrace beneath a roof of stars so thick it will look fake.

The chalets are divided into four comfortable en suite rooms and your view will either be of the endless desert plain, framed by the distant Naukluft Mountains; or the fossilised dunes which form the dramatic backdrop for the lodge.

The private concession covers about 100sq km on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft Park and straddles the transition between young and old. The fossilised dunes of the protomorphic Namib are about 20 million years old. The active dunes of the sand sea, of which Sossusvlei forms a focal point, are just entering adulthood at 5 million years.

Adding to the fascinating landscapes, shapes, colours and faces is a sprinkling of desert-adapted flora and fauna that make a handy focal point for your pictures.
