Toshari Lodge
Price: From US$100 (Our pricing)
Location: Etosha National Park, Namibia
Accommodation Description
With more than just a little touch of wholesome, home-grown goodness, Toshari Lodge (previously known as Etosha Gateway Lodge) is the kind of place that can add 'Arrive a stranger, leave a friend' to their brochure without fear of being lynched by the anti-cliché mob.
A short drive south of Etosha National Park's Andersson Gate, the lodge is an excellent base for daily guided and self-guided forays into one of Africa's great parks. The 16 en suite bungalows are spacious, clean, comfortable and shaded by mopane and white seringa trees.
Facilities
Six en-suite air-conditioned bungalows and a family room; open-air firelit dinners; swimming pool; lunch baskets; camp site
Activities
Game drives on the private nature reserve and into Etosha; excellent birdwatching especially during the summer migrations
The grounds are well tended and the central open-air courtyard is the focal point of the swimming pool, bar and restaurant - three ingredients you can really sink your teeth into. Hammocks and locally produced benches and recliners are dotted around the pool, in case you miss the point of being there: to relax.
The lodge welcomes campers with a handful of sites, barbecue stands and ablution facilities. If you want to walk off breakfast or prepare for dinner, there are a couple of walking trails in an area that is home to many birds including some near endemics.
