Chobe Safari Lodge
Chobe Safari Lodge is conveniently positioned in Kasane, Botswana - the hub of the Chobe-Victoria Falls tourist route - and on the edge of the Chobe National Park.
Large by regional standards, the Chobe Safari Lodge has 76 rooms all facing the massive Chobe River, from which the great park gets its name, a few metres away. Accommodation is comfortable, spacious and the rooms furnished with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and private terraces overlooking the river. Choices range from more luxurious safari rooms to a two-storied wing of river rooms; the original rondavels make the most of the beautiful garden while retaining views of the river.
The grounds are fenced, keeping the deadly wildlife out and your family safe, and a lush well-tended garden attracts a cacophony of birdlife and inquisitive monkeys and mongooses.
The main complex has a splendid view of the river and a small island opposite. A large deck surrounds a swimming pool and the whole lot is shaded by an enormous jackalberry tree. Deeper into the cool of the sprawling thatched building, the dining room offers buffet meals and the pool deck has an a la carte menu offering light meals throughout the day.
46 luxury safari rooms, 22 luxury river rooms, 8 chalets; family rooms available; en suite bathrooms; air conditioning; ceiling fan; safe; telephone; satellite TV; a la carte and buffet restaurant; cocktail bar and game/river viewing deck; pool and pool terrace; lounge with river view; health and beauty salon; curio shop; activity booking centre
Chobe Safari Lodge has an activity centre and runs its own guided game drives and boating safaris, the latter comes highly recommended. The evening sunset cruise aboard the larger boat is lovely but no match for the private boat safari, where you can explore the birdlife, elephants, hippos, crocs and the host of plains game that comes down to the river each evening to drink.
The booking centre also offers day trips to Victoria Falls, birding and walking safaris, boat hire, fishing trips, village visits across the river in Namibia, scenic flights and day trips to the Okavango Delta - in case you missed it on your way in.
